Whats on a desk
Whatâs on a desk Iâm typing this entry as Iâm over 10,000 feet in the air, flying over what I think is either Indiana or Illinois. By the time you read this, Iâll be in Columbia, MO, hanging out with my little brother and his dog. Winter break as officially started for me, so life is pretty good right now. But in the last month, since coming back to MIT from Thanksgiving break, I⦠1. Had two exams 2. Had two final projects 3. Had two final exams, both of which were yesterday. Itâs funny how slowly three hours passes by while youâre on a plane, yet so fast when youâre taking a final exam and all you want is a few more precious minutes to figure out that damn structure elucidation problem⦠Anyway. The point is Iâve done a lot of work â" good work, the kind where I do it and then Iâm like, âWhoa! I know stuff!â â" in the past month, but as a result, my desk at home has suffered. It was kind of a bath of crap (my roommate, Sneha â13, can attest to this. Sheâs had to live with the mess for the past month). But last night, as I packed my things, I managed to clear off what is supposed to be my workspace (although I rarely use it as one â" I avoid doing work in my room as much as possible). They say a personâs desk reveals a lot about their minds. Well, letâs have a tour of the clean, organized and happy version of mind. Away we go! A. There is a running joke in my family (and among friends) that Iâm actually Irish. This is because Iâm obsessed with Irish culture, music, people, history, etc. And I was also born on St. Patrickâs Day. This was a sign that my mom sent me last year. The Nerd Pride pin is just⦠well⦠I really donât feel like I need to justify that one. It is what it is. Youâll also spot a sticker that pretty much sums me up in the most succinct and accurate way possible â" Warning: May Contain Infantile Humor. Aaaaand then thereâs a current draft of My Life Plan. B. I like that these pictures are some of the first things I see when I wake up and get out of bed in the morning (besides my alarm). The picture that the arrow points to is one from my freshman year, taken with my brother and the Punch Brothers, a modern bluegrass-jazz-alternative fusion groups and one of my favorite bands of all time. I ended up seeing them three times in three different cities that year. C. My baby! Just kidding, Iâm not that attached. Actually I am. Nooo technology! I hate you but love you so much! D. One of the neat-o things about Simmons Hall (the dorm I live in) is that every year we have a couple of residential scholars that live with us â" usually these are visiting professors/really cool grown-ups. As a part of their âresidency,â they put on events at Simmons for the MIT community. Often times these are discussions, performances, or guest lectures. Katharina Ribbeck, who is a residential scholar and is a visiting professor in course 20 (biological engineering), happens to be pals with Mark Bathe, who is a professor in course 20, who happens to have a sister who is a professional sculptor. So while the past residential scholars events have been things like, âLetâs watch the Republican presidential debate and then talk about it!â (side note: these events are actually pretty cool), Katharinaâs was âLets invite an artist over and OMG arts and crafts time letâs play with clay!â I started out making a cup, and then I decided to be all creative and turn the cu p into a tree trunk, but then the trunk ended up looking like a cup with a bunch of tails instead of a trunk with roots, so then I decided to turn it into a volcano, but that didnât work, so then the next logical manifestation of this progression was obviously an octopus. Behind the octopus cup is another mug that my brother painted for me this summer, among other random desk trinkets. E. A picture ripped out this article that was featured on the front of the New York Times. Itâs funny â" while I never disliked watching sports, I wouldnât have considered myself an avid fan of any sports teams or athletes (with two exceptions â" I loved Kurt Warner and Mark McGwire just like every other good Missouri kid in the late 90s). Iâm thinking it was a combination of my little brotherâs fanaticism and a weird sense longing for nostalgia after leaving home that suddenly piqued my interest in following sports once I got to college. Or maybe I just enjoy getting a peek at life outside of MIT every now and then. In any case, go Cards! And just for the record â" LaRussa and Pujols, I forgive you. Barely. F. The lighting in Simmons is notoriously crappy. Which is exactly why I have TWO desk lamps. G. One more downside to Simmons is that since itâs the only dorm on Vassar St. (all the others are on âdorm row,â which runs along the Charles River), half of the rooms get a pretty nice view of campus/Boston, and the other half gets the lovely view of train tracks and the backs of various biotech companies in Cambridge. Guess which view I got? (Hint: not the former) H. I use a paper planner. I know Iâve mentioned it before, but technology and I have a weird relationship, so I tend to stick to what I know (which is not Google calendar, my iPhoneâs calendar, or any other organizational device that is acceptable to use in the 21st century).

Poem Analisys Essay - 707 Words
Olson 1 Les Olson Professor Borner English 1220: 8:00 TTH 16 July 2013 ââ¬Å"Like Riding a Bicycleâ⬠Analysis The poem ââ¬Å"Like Riding a Bicycleâ⬠by George Bilgere is a very sad and touching poem. The first stanza is very joyful, which is not true, and dramatically changes to sad and disappointing throughout the rest of the poem. The main character struggles to learn how to ride a bike with little to no help from his father. After his father leaves him drunk and careless, the boy is still unsuccessful. So the boy practices until he finally teaches himself how to ride his bike in the middle of the night. Bilgere is actually the main character in this poem. His father is a drunk when he is a child and did not care to teach him anythingâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Then the next stanza is actually how he learned to ride a bicycle, sad, alone, and giving up hope, ââ¬Å"While I stayed outside in the dark, Still fallingâ⬠. (462) And the last stanza isthe boy as a man joyfully riding his bike, ââ¬Å"As I coast the Pacific shoreline O n my old bike, the gears clickingâ⬠. (462) Imagery played a big role in this poem. It helps the reader get a better understanding on how the dad actually is during the struggle of teaching the boy how to learn how to ride a bicycle. The boy describes his father in detail during the act of him somewhat teaching him to ride his bike. The boy states that ââ¬Å"the air around us Sick with scotch, and the challenge Was keeping his own balanceâ⬠(462), describing how drunk his father actually is. The authorââ¬â¢s main idea is interesting. He starts of with the first stanza very joyful, the he describes in he next stanza what really happened. It seemed that the father hardly gave any attention to the boy as a child. The theme is symbolic for the author in this poem because he also lived through his parents getting a divorce as a child. This poem is very sad, the boy had to teach himself how to ride on his own. The setting is in the middle of night in the street and picturin g that with the little boy left there by his father is very depressing. Even though he eventually learned how to ride a bike, he had no help. Work cited Bilgere, George.

Analysis Of Catch 22 s ( 1961 ) Depiction Of War And Mr....
Catch 22ââ¬â¢s (1961) depiction of war and Mr. Robotââ¬â¢s (2015) dystopian hacking reality are both satirical pieces which expose human weaknesses within their main characters and the societal ideologies around them to educate us and entertain us in different mediums. In Catch 22, Heller exposes the psychological state of war through Yossarianââ¬â¢s anxiety-stricken attempts to deconstruct the concept of war, in order to explain to the reader, the bureaucratic and logical madness of the military. Sam Esmailââ¬â¢s Mr. Robot episode ââ¬Å"eps1.9_zer0- day.aviâ⬠continues on Elliotââ¬â¢s struggle with reality and sanity in the aftermath of erasing all debt in America and his criticisms of the conformity of society. By delving into the psyche of the military man with moments of hilarity, Catch 22 exposes trauma to educate and entertain us on the truth of war. Heller uses characters like Hungry Joe and Yossarian to explore a commonly repressed topic by soldiers being trauma. Trauma, other than being a driving factor of the story, is a recurring human problem which occurs due to certain experiences and the way it is portrayed shares similarities with Sigmund Freudââ¬â¢s work on the brainââ¬â¢s response to trauma. An example is Hungry Joe. Hungry Joe is a character who has been waiting for the call so to return home and yet the moment he has finished the required missions, Colonel Cathcart raises the number of missions. Soon falling into ruin, Hungry Joe experiences nightmares, ââ¬Å"with celestial punctuality every

A Discussion of Environmental Changes Affect Organisations Free Essays
There are two types of the term environment, internal and external; both of them can be changed. Recently the global environments are changing and will keep changing, either the internal or the external. As the very famous butterfly effect theory, a small change at one place in a complex system can have large effects elsewhere. We will write a custom essay sample on A Discussion of Environmental Changes Affect Organisations or any similar topic only for you Order Now A tiny environmental change can badly affect a organisation itself. This essay is going to discuss the influence of the environmental changes effect the organisations in both sides, positive and negative. The most important factor to an organisation is the market; it is like the blood for a corporation. In the current situation, globalisation acts the main role of business. Which means any organisation has the opportunities to meet the global market? Therefore the marketing division in each organisation has to consider the global environment can change the market share percentage. For instance, the natural environment getting more and more polluted, and consumers choose products more carefully. So the quality of products also have to be more carefully monitored, otherwise customers will choose the products from the competitors and the corporation loses the market. Another example is the global economy. It is well known that the finance crisis in 2008 affect most entities all over the world. The ex-market might never need the products or could cut down the needs. Or those ex-markets do not exist any more. So the external environment can definitely change the market. Other the other hand, external changing environment could bring new market. Any new changes can create new wants and needs, thus the new creation can be found for cater to the needs and wants of customers. Secondly, the changing environment affect the resourcing include the natural resources and human resources. It is undeniable that the resource on earth is getting less and less, and most of them are non-renewable. Since children, we were told that the last drop of water will be human beingââ¬â¢s tear. With the decreasing of the natural resources, the organisations will have to adjust itself to get with it. After finish the oil resources, how many oil based organisations can survive, like the car corporations? However, with the new inventions, there are more and more new power resources can be used. For instance solar, wind power, wave energy and nuclear. So the car industries can produce and sell cars using new energy. Changing from whether internal or external environment can make a lot differences on human resource. Talk about the human recourses, the new generation is called Generation Y, who have highly educated. Which means more and more talents from the entire world could get and work together. So more and more diversity and multi-culture can display in todayââ¬â¢s organisations. Take Australia for an example, people in different age, gender, background, personality, educational level and so on can just perfect amalgamated. However, the diversity can also cause misconstrue, conflict or discrimination. Another important thing has to be mentioned is culture diversity. As we all know, the current society has became social diversification. Take Australia for example, more than 100 nationalities and cultures can be found in this continent. People who from different culture background can mostly examine the matter from different angles. Also, the changes of environment affect the managing, different environment requires different styles of management. In modern society, most multinational organisations need to consider that what kind of leadership is the best way to leader the local teams. To gain the highest profit, a good leader who can lead the team and motivate staff is highly necessary. A good manager can adjust his methods to cater to different requirement. For example, a good newly transfer manager could get into the local culture quite soon and respect it. And the changing environment can affect the decision making. Good management could never include personal moods or emotions, same as changes in working conditions. How to cite A Discussion of Environmental Changes Affect Organisations, Essay examples

James Phillips Essay Example Paper James Phillips Essay Introduction In our world today, there are happenings that can not be explained easily. There are some social phenomena that can not be understood easily. People change over time. People change depending on the surrounding or environment they are in. It is studied in almost every Sociology courses that people are being honed or developed to become the person they are now. Socialization is a big factor in every personââ¬â¢s life. Because it can be determinant of how a person or an individual would be in the future. It can either make or break a person. We always associate a person from its origin. It is the common basis of people to say something to the person or to simply put ââ¬â the basis of judgment to any person or people is his or her origin. Ralph ââ¬ËBuckyââ¬â¢ James Phillips The case that I will be discussing in this paper is about Ralph James Phillip or commonly known as ââ¬ËBuckyââ¬â¢. He was born on June 19, 1962 in Stockton, New York. He is not a recognized citizen of Seneca Nation of India. He is a convicted murderer and he was captured on September 8, 2006 by the Pennsylvania Police. He has been in the Top 10 Fugitive List of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was in the four hundred eighty three in the list replacing Warren Jeff. For the past years he have committed crimes like unlawful flight due to his avoidance to trial, motivated murder, and attempted provoked murder. James Phillips Essay Body Paragraphs Facts of the Crime Ralph J. Phillips escaped from the Alden Correctional Facility in Erie Country near Buffalo after he has spent twenty years of his life there. This was happened in April 2, 2006 and he made this possible through using a can opener. During the months of April and June, the police have the suspicion that he is the man behind the several break-ins at hunting cabin. There were trucks that were stolen from one place to another. The residents of Sinclair Ville, Stockton, Randolph, Great Valley, and Bradford in Pennsylvania have spotted him roaming around the area. The police have also speculations that the relatives of Phillips have been helping him out to get away from the police. The story of the manhunt of Ralph J. Phillips started on June 10, 2006 at Elmira, New York. It happened in the duration of a traffic stop wherein Phillips have shot a Trooper named Sean Brown. From then on, he (Phillips) became the interest of the Troopers and the Policemen. After five days, t he search for Phillips continued making the Elmira-Binghamton area the hot spot because it was believed that he has close affinity in the area. There were also checkpoints in Pomfret, Chautauqua County. Then on June 20, there were speculations that he (Phillips) has stolen a car in Hancock, Binghamtom which was identified as a Dodge Caravan. After the incident happened, few days later a New York Trooper have killed a guy named Brad Horton because the former mistook the latter as Ralph J. Phillips. The Trooper has argued that he did it for self defense. There have been investigations about the case. The following day, the reported missing car was found in Sheridan. Because of this, police have speculations that Phillips is just wandering in the area of Chautauqua County; following this incident the police have launched a dragnet in Cassadaga. Came July, a new diner was opened with a name ââ¬Å"Bucky Burgersâ⬠. There were also a circulation of shirts with prints like ââ¬Å"Wher eââ¬â¢s Buckyâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Got Bucky?â⬠These shirts can be found in Chautauqua County. There was a firearm retrieved that was linked to the incident of the killing of Mr. Brown by a Trooper. Five days have passed and Phillips was not captured yet, thus the rewards for the people or person who will give credible information about the whereabouts of Phillips have been raise to fifty thousand dollars ($50,000). In the height of the search of Phillips, the Trooper who where shot by him paid a visit in Chautauqua County to give the much needed support to his fellow Troopers. At the same time, there were news that came out that the case of Horton is still ongoing to give him and his family the justice they were asking for. In the same month, a burglary happened which was accounted to Phillips. Because of the incident the hotspot was transferred to Cattaraugus County and there was the establishment of command post in Randolph Central School. At the end of the month (July), op erations in both Randolph and Cattaraugus County were closed down. At the start of August a car napping incident have happened in Olean which was also accounted to Phillips. The car was later on found in Niagara County which made the police leave the Chautauqua County. Then on August 9, it was reported that Phillips was seen near the Tuscarora Indian Reservation sporting a baseball hat. The police did not get any details as to how they get the photos. On August 19, there were residents of Cassadaga that were arrested because they have allegedly helped Phillips. These residents were identified as Natasha Berg, Timothy Seekings, and Alice Kelley. With this incident, the police have decided to make Chautaqua a hotspot for the search for Pillips once again. There were incident wherein Philips has been followed by the Troopers because the motorcycle he was driving then has no sticker for inspection. But he has managed to get away through passing the rear window of the apartment. Followin g the arrest of the three Cassadaga residents is the arrest of Kasey Crowe, a former girlfriend, and Patrina Wright, the daughter of Phillips. The latter was accused of child endangerment thus removing the custody of her children to her. In Chautauqua County, robbery of a gun shop was reported. The suspect that was given by the police is no other than Phillips. There was also a reported car napping. There were a total of forty one (41) stolen guns but there are only thirty five (35) recovered in Ludlow by the Pennsylvania Police. After this incident, Todd Nelson was accused of the accessory of a crime ââ¬â he helped Phillips for almost two weeks of hiding in the area. There were also two Troopers who were wounded by a rifle-style shooting. The said troopers were brought to the hospital through the state aviation. At the same time, the custody of Wrightââ¬â¢s children has been given to her again. Came September, State Police have identified Phillips as the person behind the sh ootings. With this, there were seventy five (75) troopers added in the wide search for Philips. The reward for his capture has increased up to two hundred twenty five thousand dollars ($225,000). After a few days, Trooper Joseph Longobardo died. His death has added another seventy five troopers (75) to search for Phillips. There was also an advisory to the hunters to stay out of the woods until Phillips have not yet captured, and the children to stay indoors. September 6, 2006 was the day Phillips is declared as one of the Top 15 Most Wanted by the United States Marshals. The following day, he was added in the Federal Bureau of Investigationââ¬â¢s List of Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives. The numbers of Troopers and Police who are in search for Phillips have increased to four hundred (400) accompanying the increase in the reward for Phillips capture to four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000). Two days after, at around early morning Phillips have spotted running into the woods, there were chase happened, then at the end of the day Phillips have finally surrendered to the Pennsylvania Police. In his capture, Ralph J. Phillips has been charged with eight counts of murder of different kind. This is connected to the June 10 incident. Through the request of Attorney Terrance Flynn, the focus of Phillips case is on the serious state charges. After his (Phillips) arrest, there was a .308 rifle found in the place where Phillips surrendered. The president of the Police Benevolent Association of the New York Troopers have released a statement saying that the process of manhunt of Phillips was a poor person, he said that the police and the troopers could have done better. A month has passed and Phillips has come out with a statement that he has received maltreatment from the guards of Chemung County Jail. But this was denied by the guards of the said County Jail. During the court trials, it was found out that he (Phillips) is guilty of different murder incidents including the case of Troopers Longobardo and Baker. He was also found guilty in the break out happened in Erie County Correctional Facility. On December 19, 2006, he, Ralph J. Phillips has given a sentence of life imprisonment and twenty five (25) years to life in Chautauqua and Erie County Court respectively. Criminology Theory Some theories believe that being a criminal or criminality has something to do with the individual socialization and how a person or a criminal have been influenced by the people around him or her. One of the major thinkers of criminology theory is Sutherland, he is also the considered Father of Criminology. His theory is called, Differential Association Theory. This theory states that, criminal behavior is learned through interaction with other people. It can be seen in primary groups like family, friends, and their closest companion. The process of learning includes acquisition of techniques, drives, rationalizations, motives and attitudes. The latter two and its direction can be learned and patterned from the legal codes which can be considered as pleasant or not. The time an individual turned into a criminal is the time when the violation of law in in excess, this is where DA or differential association sets in. It can differ depending on the frequency, duration, priority, and intensity. The mechanisms used in the learning of a criminal behavior are like of other learning. Lastly, given that a criminal behavior is a form of expressing general needs and attitudes it can not be compared to those who are not criminals. From the case of Ralph J. Phillips, it can be observed that his case is like an adventure to him. He was trying to defy the norms and he was trying to mock the police by doing the things that he has done. By doing so he gets the satisfaction that he is better than any policemen because he have triumphed in hiding. He has outdone other police or troopers for that matter. One point is that there are people who have helped him to get away from the police. This shows that people are just like him who is trying to prove that policemen and/or troopers are not that good as they may seem. Those people who have helped him to get through the atrocities of his escape wanted to prove that Phillips or Bucky can do better than the policemen. On the other hand, he, Phillips think that he can never get out of his situation, although he knows that he can be granted a parole, that does not stop him from doing his plans of escaping. He has learned that once a criminal has been imprisoned he or she will always be in that situation and there is no way that he or she can get out. This could be accounted to the fact that he, Phillips have been socializing with other criminals who probably think that way. Biology Unit 2 IP Essays
Biology Unit 2 IP Essays Biology Unit 2 IP Paper Biology Unit 2 IP Paper All organisms are usually divided into the two large categories, according to the substances they use to produce energy. While autotrophs use non-organic elements (sunlight), heterotrophs require food to produce energy. Autotrophs are the ââ¬Å"organisms that can make their own food from an inorganic source of carbon given a source of energyâ⬠(Blankenship, 2002). The majority of plants and algae are autotrophic by nature; i.e., they use photosynthesis to produce glucose. à à 2. What are the names for the types of organisms can use Aerobic Cellular Respiration to break down glucose to produce ATP? Provide specific examples. All active organisms utilize the benefits of aerobic cellular respiration process to produce energy. In other terms, almost all living organisms use Aerobic Cellular Respiration to break down glucose to produce ATP. Eukaryotes (animals and plants) are the main energy consumers. They use mitochondria as the instruments in energy-releasing reactions. Mitochondria ââ¬Å"are found in particularly high numbers in muscle and other high-energy use tissuesâ⬠(Elliott, 2005); in animals and plants, these usually drive glucose breakdown and energy consumption processes. 3. If oxygen is lacking, how might cells meet their energy needs through fermentation? Explain and give some examples of cells that can do this. When cells lack oxygen, traditional aerobic cellular respiration is replaced with fermentation. The latter does not require oxygen in its chemical reactions. ââ¬Å"In fermentation pyruvic acid molecules are turned into some ââ¬Ëwasteââ¬â¢ product, and a little bit of energy is producedâ⬠(Elliott, 2005). Organisms use several different fermentation chains to replenish the lack of energy in anaerobic conditions. Lactic fermentation occurs by means of Lactobacillus acidophilus and some fungi; bacteria and yeast serve the engines of alcohol fermentation and ethanol production in organisms. 4. Both photosynthesis and aerobic cellular respiration are examples of complex metabolic pathways, consisting of many linked reactions. Briefly, explain the role of enzymes in catalyzing chemical reactions and in metabolic pathways. Enzymes are ââ¬Å"specialized proteins that speed up chemical reactionsâ⬠(Blankenship, 2002). Enzymes represent a separate class of catalysts that participate in metabolic processes and reduce the amount of energy organisms need to produce or consume energy. Enzymes are highly selective, and although they control each step of photosynthesis and cellular respiration, their activity will differ at each stage of the energy reaction process. For example, the process of cellular respiration would be incomplete, if not for the usefulness and active participation of ATP synthase (an active enzyme used to produce ATP molecules). The number and the set of enzymes which participate in metabolic processes vary, but all of them are critically important for the stability and quality of metabolic processes in all living organisms. Career Aptitude Test Find a Job That is the Best Fit for Your Personality
Career Aptitude Test Find a Job That is the Best Fit for Your Personality If youââ¬â¢re the type of person who always knew what career you wanted to go into, and are astoundingly happy and secure in your career path, then you, my friend, are doing great. If youââ¬â¢re not sure youââ¬â¢ve made the right career choices, or are feeling increasingly restless in your job, then you, my other friend, are in good company. Maybe you picked something that interested you right out of school, but have come to find that youââ¬â¢re no longer so keen on the field. Maybe you picked your job or career because you thought it would be totally different. Whatever the case, you donââ¬â¢t have to make your decisions (stay or go? What do I want to do?) blindly. There are a variety of tools available that measure your strengths and weaknesses such as career aptitude tests. Youââ¬â¢re welcome to find a zen place (beach, shady tree, lonely desert) and think hard about what you want to do with your career. But if youââ¬â¢re like the rest of us, you might need a little additional help to make the best choice. Chances are, you know yourself pretty well- but there are tools that can help you figure out if your personality and approach are a good fit for your career path. And if not, where your strengths might lead you.Why Personality Matters in Your CareerIn the career world, data matters. Your skills matter. Your experience matters. Your references matter. What can get lost in this process sometimes is the real, complete you. Defining your professional qualities and actions on paper is pretty easy (wrangling them into bullet points and concrete examples, slightly less so). What doesnââ¬â¢t necessarily come across in your resume is your personality, the sum total of your experience, outlook on life, sense of humor, values, and priorities. You may have more of a chance to show other sides of yourself in an interview, but itââ¬â¢s still a very limited, controlled environment.Figuring out your personality and work style is more of a person al thing. The better you know yourself and how you react to situations, the more likely you are to seek out jobs and careers that match up with that. Itââ¬â¢s like trying on pants. You can like what you see on the rack, and assume that because theyââ¬â¢re your size, theyââ¬â¢ll be fine. And maybe they will, but if you donââ¬â¢t try them on first, or you run the risk of being happy with said pants when you get them home. On the other hand, if you know the brand of pants well, like the style, and confirm theyââ¬â¢ll look good on you before you buy, then youââ¬â¢ll probably be pretty happy with your pants. Career happiness is probably more important to you long-term than pants happiness, so it makes sense that youââ¬â¢d want to apply at least as much care to your career choices as well.Personality also matters to your daily work life, even beyond the choice of a job. Itââ¬â¢s a major factor in your success and satisfaction on the job. Are you a leader or more of a platoon member? Can you overcome major differences with colleagues or bosses to get things done? Are you a lone wolf that prefers hunkering down and getting things done over working with a team on a project? Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Do you prefer look at the big picture, or are the small details all you can see?Itââ¬â¢s important to understand how you interact at work, and what your comfort zones are. It can be good to push those comfort zones a little for the sake of personal and professional growth, but itââ¬â¢s best to be reasonable about it. If youââ¬â¢re an introvert, a job where you have the spotlight on you just might not be very satisfying in the long term. You can change jobs, but changing your personality is just not very feasible. For more on personality and your career, check out this video: [via OTM Education]So how do we figure out this baseline personality, and start making smarter career decisions? To the internet! How to Figure Out Your PathTh e online world isnââ¬â¢t just good for helping you figure out which Game of Thrones character you would beâ⬠¦it also has more serious quizzes that you can use to help you figure out what your own real-life character is (youââ¬â¢ll still have plenty of time later to figure out whether youââ¬â¢re a Lannister or a Stark).Online quizzes and surveys that go beyond Facebook memes can help you really drill down into your character and personality, and figure out where to go from there.Letââ¬â¢s look at some of the top personality/career quizzes and assessments. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)The MBTI is a general personality assessment that is used broadly by professionals when it comes to evaluating new hires or potential candidates. It assesses personal preferences, like motivation, how you process information, how you view the world, etc. The official test is $49.95, but there are also free versions kicking around as well. How to apply it to your career: Sites like this one have already done some of the leg work in figuring out what types of jobs match your Myers-Briggs personality type.TruityTruity builds on the Myers-Briggs type, and offers a TypeFinder assessment that also identifies your personal strengths. How to apply it to your career: Truity recommends different job types based on your TypeFinder results. The official TypeFinder Personality test costs $29, but smaller subtests (including one to figure out your temperament) are free.PymetricsPymetrics uses games to help gauge your personality, strength, and weaknesses, and match you up with careers and companies looking for your type. Itââ¬â¢s not your average personality quiz- the interactive mind games make it feel more like youââ¬â¢re taking a break than taking a test. Itââ¬â¢s free to sign up and start playing the games. How to apply it to your career: The site features a matchmaking-type option that lets you find companies that would fit well with your personality.
